Now that you have completed your posters and are working on your speeches, you probably feel like you know this book inside out! Do you think other students would enjoy it? Should it be a "class book" that is read (so assignments and essays would be given on the book) or a book that is read by some students? Explain your answer.

Furthermore, do you think it would work as a teacher/student book club book? In the past, the school has hosted book clubs where teachers & students have read the same book and discussed the themes that are common to both age groups. What discussion questions could be brought up in the club?

  1. My speech and poster are probably going to make my book sound amazing or something. But to be honest I didn't like it and it was a waste of my time. So I wouldn't recommend this book to be read in class or in a club. An ii defenitely don't recommend this book to be used for an essay or something. This book in my opinion could have been way better then what it was.

    1. I love how straight forward you are about it. It's good that you weren't just like," It's alright, certain people will like it if...." I definitely won't be reading it, I guess (:

  2. I honestly thought my book was very good. I think that it should be read in a teacher student book club. It has been the best book I've read in a while. I do recommend this book to be read throughout the class because once you start it intrigues you. I think it was really good.

    2. That wasnt very descriptive.. why would the book appeal to us as a class? what exactly is good about it, or could we relate to? what's it even about, or the name of it? I don't see how someone could take an opinion without any detail or further explanation. It's like we don't even know what you're referring to or why.

  3. "Sorta Like a Rockstar" was an okay read. It depends on what the reader wants to get out of it, if just a light read with a nice chipper upper it's decent. I don't believe the class should read it because the main character's goodyness makes it difficult for the reader to connect with her and leaves most people bored out of their mind because of that. I don't believe it will work as part of a book club since many reader will probably stop readjng it willingly midway through.

    2. I agree with you. I probably wouldn't want to read something like that in class.

    3. That's not something I would be interested in, good opinion. Putting your own feelings into relation of the class, I like how you did that.

  4. "In the Time of the Butterflies", wasn't so much of a bad book and I suppose I would recommend it, but there's a lot going on. For this reason, I feel making this book a class read would be rather unproductive. The whole essence of the book would be taken, as it does have a great significance. This historical fiction novel brings the reader back to Trujillio's 30 year rein in the Dominican Republic. This is an extremely important part of history and perhaps even more so when explaining why a dictatorship is harmful to any civilization or community. When books are read as a class, I feel that too much analyzing occurs. For this reason, I don't think a book club would help either. This book is one that should be read and interpreted independently.

  5. I think that most students would really enjoy the fast paced action and adventure this book offers. Also, it makes for a really nice read for a teenager because of the way it touches on relationships and restrictive parents. I don't see why this book wouldn't be a good book for a book club because of the wide variety of people who would enjoy it.If it where however implemented in a book club, some common questions might have to do with the topic of P.K. running away, or how people would feel if they were living with a psychopath.

  6. I think that students will enjoy the book I read. When I first saw the book I thought I wasn't going to like it but it turned out to be a pretty good book. It is very easy to understand and it is interesting. This book would make a good book for a book club because some teachers and students would be able to relate to it. This book is mainly about bullying and most teachers see kids being bullied on a daily basis.

  7. I thought that "Half Brother" was a very good book. Yes I think that everyone would enjoy it because Ben is a believable and relatable character. The book contains many challenges and sacrifices that Ben has made which are very interesting to read. It's also cool how you can see what it's like to live with a monkey as part of your family. I think that this could be a "class book" because if you were to break the book down by doing essays, you can really discuss all the challenges that Ben has faced for seeing Zan as his brother. If "Half Brother" were to be in a book club, I suppose some questions might have to do with connecting with the characters. For example, "How would you feel if you had to give up Zan?" or "Would you go and steal Zan if you found out he was going to be used in a biomedical experiment?"

  8. I thought "Nothing Special" was a good book that most guys and girls can enjoy. It isn't boring though. The book is very up to date and easy for teenagers to relate to. Some situations in the book every high school student has experienced. If this was to be read in class it would be better than the books already chosen. It doesn't have unnecessary information. It also doesn't drag on forever. I would recommend this book to classmates and other teenagers.

  9. Even though I think other students would enjoy reading "My Book of Life by Angel", I do not think it should be a class book or a teacher/student book club book. I feel that the book may be too mature to read in school. The idea of prostitution, drugs, and abuse is really not a topic you would read about in school. If anything, the book should be read by students on their own time. "My Book of Life by Angel" is an amazing story and I think other people should really take the chance to read it.

  10. I think that other students would enjoy my book since it focuses on a problem that is faced worldwide, which is poverty. I think it should be a "class book" that
is read because it has many events that people can relate to. The multiple viewpoints of the book help to allow readers to easily relate. I thing it would also work as a teacher/student book club book. Some possible discussion questions that could be brought up in the club could be, "Why is this book so true to real life?", or "How can you relate to a character or an event in this book?"

  11. Yes, I do think that other students will enjoy this book "The Heart is Not a Size. I think that it should be a book read in class, because it talks about everyday life as a teenager. It also talks about and how to deal with a friendship even when life might be a living hell. I also think that it will work as a teacher/student book club book because the discussions that they will have will influence them and make them want to go out and talk more about it to other book clubs. One discussion question would be "How would you describe Georgia as character?" or "Would u keep that seccret of Riley?"

  12. I dont think other students will enjoy my book because there was too much going on in the plot and not enough pages in the book to give these characters the development I wanted to see. Eventough the book is about zombies, these zombies aren't your typical brain eating zombies more towards brain controled humans. Don't think that the book isn't good, but many wont realte to it as much as others. It might work as a teacher/student book club book because it can explaing what extreme choices people do to survive. It shows how civil someone can be under a difficult situation.

  13. I think other students may enjoy "The Alchemist". It is an overall good book that isn't boring. This book has sold 65 million copies worldwide. I think this book could be good class book. In the version that I read, there is a section with a lot of extra things. There are class discussion questions that could be done as essays. I don't think this could be a book club book because it is short and it may not appeal to everyone.

    1. I totally agree. The summary of the book in your speech really made me want to read it.

  14. I think other girls would enjoy this book but not the boys. I don't think it would a good class book to read together because its all about love and the boys wouldn't want to read it. It wouldn't be able to be a book club book between teachers and students because some parts the students wouldn't be comfortable talking with the teachers about, in my opinion.

  15. My book after ever after was an alright read. It really depends on the type of person you are to like the book but I don't think it should be read as a class.

  16. I do think other students will enjoy the book "Faking Faith", for one reason being just showing multiple people a paragraph of it they have expressed their feelings towards it. And, not one of the people I showed had given me negative feedback. Also, it's relatable in certain aspects of this story to the lives of highschoolers. Might I add that it is also in fact VERY interesting if I do say so myself. I feel as though if there were assignments to go along with this book, essays, etc, it would be quite productive. Furthermore, if it were to be used in a book club, I figure it would go pretty well. Honestly, I'm enjoying my book a lot. I would love for it to be shared with the class as a whole, not just myself. It offers a new perspective on things, and though some people may not agree with things said in the book, it could sure start some great discussions or debates. People could talk about why they feel Dylan did what she did, why she lied so much, what we think will happen further in the story, examine the subtle but phenomenal use of foreshadowing, etc. I honestly do think this book would be great and a hit if read in a book club or as a class. Im curious to see how other people react to this (in my opinion) great novel.

  17. I think this book should not be read and discussed in class. Yes, it’s a very interesting book but there are something’s the characters say, do and imagine that just aren’t appropriate to discuss and do assignment on in school. I feel it would make the teacher and the students feel accessibly awkward. And even though this book might not appeal to everyone, especially if they don’t like horror but there are other elements in this book as well like romance, adventure, and comedy that make this book not just a great horror book, but a great book to read for almost anyone brave enough for a little scaring . I don’t think it would be suited for a book club either. There are many parts in the book that are not topics that would want to be talk about with teachers and other peers. This is more of a book to read personally at home.

  18. I find my book very interesting and exciting to read but I dont think it would go well with school assignments and essays. It's more of a book for entertainment. For book clubs can be a different story though. I think this book would do well in a book club because theres a lot that goes on to discuss about and your opinion on the things that happen. This is a good book just not classroom good. It is more of a on your own or with friends type book.
